This course covers basic characteristics of concrete structures, types of concrete, how to prepare and place concrete, concrete mix design, formwork systems, and finishes in concrete. Precast concrete and cast-in-situ concrete will also be discussed. The course also includes the history of masonry, tools and equipment, and measurements and drawings used by masons. It will also introduce basic masonry units such as clay bricks, concrete blocks and stone. Masonry tasks such as spreading of mortar, furrowing, buttering, and brick laying technique are discussed.
