Description

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the private security industry, examining its critical role in the broader field of public safety and criminal justice. Students will explore the historical development, legal foundations, and operational practices of private security services, including asset protection, risk management, physical and information security, surveillance, and personnel safety. Topics covered include the distinctions between public law enforcement and private security, the ethics and legal limitations of private security personnel, security planning, threat assessment, emergency response, and the growing use of technology in surveillance and access control. The course also addresses contemporary issues such as corporate security, cybersecurity integration, workplace violence prevention, and terrorism-related concerns.
