This course provides an overview of the historical, social, and legal development of the American judicial system. The course identifies the roles and responsibilities of judicial officers and other professionals responsible for judicial operations. Public policy issues facing the judiciary are discussed. The influence of the United States Constitution, federal and state law, and judicial interpretation on practitioners is discussed.
