This course will provide the student with the basic knowledge and skills needed to safely operate a patrol vehicle under emergency conditions. Students will learn the statutory requirements governing the operation of emergency vehicles and the associated liability issues, how proper utilization of steering, braking, and acceleration can help control physical forces during emergency vehicle operations, how proper maintenance and use of safety devices can reduce risk of injury or death, and be able to perform vehicle placement, threshold braking, slalom/lane change, evasive maneuvers, and skid-car braking.
